Northland College

Extensive consultation with kaumatua and kuia, combined with a rewarding design-build tender process, helped create a dynamic cultural centre for the hub of the north. The design acknowledges the value of this school to Kaikohe and Ngapuhi.

The building’s elongated form allows the flow of people and knowledge through the wide curriculum of teaching spaces, including a Trades Academy and a working farm. The Atea welcomes people to the site, providing access to the public spaces; including the Whare Wānanga & Hospitality Hub. The Mānawa acts as the heart of the school, a place of central congregation.
